2025 Tackle Football

Our teams participate in the NJ Suburban Youth Football League (NJSYFL). The goal of the NJSYFL is to provide the largest number of pre-high school aged youth with a positive experience in the game of football, through participation in a town residency required league.

There are no tryouts and no prior experience is required to play at any level.

The players will be assigned to a team primarily based on their grade level.

The tackle program is open to 2nd through 8th grade athletes and each division has a maximum age restriction.

Fees
Tackle Player Registration:
Divisions A through E - 4th through 8th Grade = $300 per player
Division F – 3rd & 2nd Grade = $150 per player

Register by June 1 to avoid a $50 late fee

Work Bond: $250/family (charged during registration)

Work Bond - refunded after volunteer requirement is fulfilled, equipment is returned and full participation in the Calendar Raffle.

***PLEASE NOTE - if you are registering athletes for more than one Football program or Football and Cheer, the system will automatically add multiple work bonds to your cart. DO NOT CHECK OUT WITH MULTIPLE WORK BONDS IN YOUR CART. Once your cart is set with the registrations you want, email [email protected] and let us know you are ready to check out. We will modify your cart so it only has one work bond charge.

Practices

Attendance

Please make an effort to schedule your family vacations during June and July. Though we allow some flexibility for pre-arranged vacations, August is a critical month where skill sets are being evaluated and positions determined.

The 2025 season will begin on Monday, August 11th, 2025.

AUGUST - practices will typically be scheduled for Monday – Thursday from 6:00 to 8:30 pm for a total of 10 practice hours for the week. No team may schedule more than 10 hours of practice per week before Labor Day (league rule).

SEPT through the End of the season - practices will be cut back to 3 nights a week for a total of 6 practice hours for the week. The specific nights will be announced during August. No team may schedule more than 6 hours of practice per week after Labor Day (league rule).

The season will continue through the end of November if the team qualifies for the post season or through mid-December if the team qualifies for Nationals.

If a team qualifies for Regionals, practices will continue throughout the month of November.

Games and Travel

Games are typically played on Sundays beginning the first or second Sunday in September through the end of October. All tackle levels from 5th grade to 8th grade have a chance to make the playoffs which continue into November, possibly December depending on advancement.

Coaching Opportunities

Parent volunteers interested in coaching are encouraged and should register as a volunteer during the player registration process. Coaches have varied experience with the sport and include former players, former HHS alumni, current HHS Players, and interested parent volunteers. No experience is required—however knowledge of the sport is preferred. All are welcome and will be paired with experienced coaches accordingly. When registering as a volunteer you will need to upload a copy of your Rutgers SAFETY certification card. All coaches will also need to complete the required training through USA Football and pass a background check.

Volunteers under 18 years of age - A Coach Trainee must be rostered, and must comply with the same registration procedures as a rostered player. A Coach Trainee can earn credit for volunteering. A form may be required for the coordinator/ coach to approve their volunteer time. The Coach Trainee would then need to turn in this paper to their sports director.

Equipment and Uniforms

Each tackle player will be fitted and issued the following gear and uniforms from the Equipment Manager:
(1) - Helmet with face mask
(1) - Helmet chin-strap
(1) - Shoulder pads
(1) - Practice jersey [white]
(1) - Padded Game & Practice pants [black]
(2) - Game day jersey [cardinal & white]

All these items are the property of the organization and must be maintained and returned to the Equipment Manager at the end of the season to qualify for the refund of your Work Bond.

Each player will need to bring their own personal items in order to be completely ready to take the field:

Football shoes with non-metallic cleats
Practice and Game socks
Football Girdle Athletic supporter or Padded Football Shirt
Protective Cup
Mouth-guard (extras)

If any player is missing any piece of their gear come practice and game time, they will not be allowed to take the field out of regard for their own safety.
